Chateau De Pez 2019 Saint-Estephe 750ml
A classic left bank Bordeaux, Château de Pez dates back to the 15th century and is, along with, Calon, the oldest wine estate in Saint-Estèphe. The fascinating history of the château has seen many changes of ownership over the centuries and was most recently purchased by Champagne Louis Roederer in 1995, where it will likely stay. The estate covers 30 contiguous hectares, 26 of which are under vine with a varietal mix of 48% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The final blend is made in December and is then aged in French oak barrels, 40% new, 40% first year and 20% second year. The finished wine is typically richly textured with densely packed dark fruit flavors—as in blackberry and black cherry—with a nice edge of graphite pencil lead. Slightly grippy tannins on the finish, making it extremely age worthy.
